ART PRIZE 2023

This Silk Laundry Art Prize celebrates the photographic works of our community by paying homage to their craftsmanship and artistic expression. In line with our collection Nature’s Laboratory 2023, this year’s competition focused on the mesmerising world of insects.

ART PRIZE 2023: PATRICK NELSON

We congratulate Patrick Nelson for winning the Silk Laundry Art Prize 2023 with his endearing photo of a Vine Hawk Moth caterpillar he found in his backyard.

“One cool thing about the vine hawkmoth caterpillar is its big fake eyes. What we see is a surface pattern that resembles two big eyes. It is thought that this forms part of its defence mechanism. When it senses danger, it shows off its ‘big eyes’ to inflate its size and presumably frighten off any would-be predator.”

THIRD PLACE WINNER: KADEN POOL

In a captivating exploration of nature's microcosm, "Symphony of Self-Adoration" presents a double exposed film image that transcends conventional perspectives, inviting viewers into an intimate rendezvous with the enchanting world of insects. This entrancing photograph captures the delicate moment of a ladybug engaged in a gentle and surreal kiss with its mirrored self, unravelling the captivating narrative of self-love and the intricacies of nature's laboratory.

AWARD 2023: VINH NGUYEN

We extend another congratulations to Vinh Nguyen, the People’s Choice Prize winner. Through using vibrant colours he dreamily captured a white flower crab spider hiding in a rose, waiting for its breakfast to arrive.

THE FINALISTS OF THE SILK LAUNDRY ART PRIZE 2023

The 2023 Silk Laundry Art Prize finalists have been selected. Each finalist photographed the intricate details of the little creatures through their photography and portrayed their delicate nature. The shortlisted works will be featured in our annual magazine.
