FLOWERS FOR UKRAINE

Since the Russian war on Ukraine began in 2022, Silk Laundry has sought to support Ukrainians through our in-boutique flower markets. From Brisbane to Montréal, proceeds from every flower sold aid the Ukrainian charities, Masha Foundation and VET Crew. We are pleased to share that we've raised over $40,000 AUD as of June 2024, thanks to the support of our community.

“For me, the most fulfilling aspect of my role are the values I have instilled in my business. Telling stories that are important to me is a privilege. It has given me a special voice, and Silk Laundry now allows me to donate to causes in need and do charity work. To me, that is the most rewarding part of my role.” - Founder, Katie Kolodinski.

“We have been able to purchase land and begin Project 166, which is now an official charity and a carbon sequestration project. I have donated over $40,000 to Ukraine for aid directly through our flower sales. My worlds of fashion and conservation are colliding - it’s allowing me to love what I do.”

PROJECT 166

Project 166 was sparked by Creative Director, Katie Kolodinski and CEO, Reece Rackley’s purchase of a 1,200-acre plot of land that was destroyed by traditional farming and logging. The not-for-profit organisation aims to regenerate the land by planting 166 trees on behalf of every person in the business, from the date of purchase.

With a target of 166,000 trees, Project 166 is making significant progress. In 2022 alone, the team successfully planted 3,890 trees, built a living quarters out of a dilapidated shed, introduced bee hives to the land and launched two new camps in June and September.

As one of Project 166’s founding entities, we're proud to participate in the development of the inaugural crops and laying the groundwork for the project's long-term success.

PUBLIC GARDEN

Inspired by a shared vision, Silk Laundry's Creative Director, Katie Kolodinski, and CEO, Reece Rackley, are bringing a vibrant pollinator garden to Katie’s hometown of Thunder Bay, Canada. Transforming the facade of an historic bank building, the space aims to create a community haven freely accessible to all.

The garden will provide a sanctuary for local flora and fauna, fostering biodiversity and offering a tranquil space to relax for community members. Katie and Reece envision the garden as a vibrant hub where people can learn about the importance of pollinators, participate in planting activities, and connect with the beauty of native plants. The transformation of this historic space underscores Silk Laundry’s commitment to revitalising local communities and promoting ecological restoration.
