Our Story

Silk Laundry began in Australia in 2015 with a single piece. Founder Katie Kolodinski had spent years collecting vintage silk slips, but couldn’t find the one she wanted to wear every day. So she made it. The 90s Slip Dress remains part of the collection today.

From that first dress, Silk Laundry has grown into a wardrobe of silk pieces, natural fibres, refined shapes and original prints. The clothes are designed to work together, to be styled in different ways and to be worn through different parts of life.

Each collection begins with curiosity. Art, travel, nature and the people Katie meets find their way into colour, print and form. Some pieces are quiet foundations; others tell a more expressive story. Together, they make a wardrobe that feels personal.

Silk Laundry is also shaped by the people behind the clothes: the makers we work with, the artists we collaborate with and the community who wears them. We believe in choosing pieces with care, looking after them and making room for the stories they gather over time.

Silk Laundry began in Australia in 2015 with a dress Katie Kolodinski wanted but couldn’t find. Inspired by the vintage slips she had collected for years, she designed the 90s Slip Dress in 100% silk. It remains at the heart of the brand today.

From one piece to a wardrobe

That first dress became the starting point for a wider wardrobe: silk shirts, fluid trousers, considered tailoring, natural fibres and original prints. Pieces designed to work with what you already own, to be worn in different ways and to come back to over time.

Our collections are shaped by Katie’s curiosity about the world. Art, travel, nature, books and conversations become colour, texture, print and form. Each one carries its own story while staying connected to the clothes at the core of Silk Laundry.

Ten years of Silk Laundry

In 2025, we celebrated ten years of Silk Laundry. Ten years since the first slip dress; ten years of seeing our pieces worn to work, on holiday, at weddings, at home and everywhere in between.

The clothes have been part of those moments, but the people wearing them have made the story. We’re grateful to the makers, artists, collaborators and community who have shaped Silk Laundry with us.
